Ronghua Chen,

male, of Han nationality, born in Shanghai in July 1940, has been the professor of treatment, the professor of medicine, the doctoral supervisor and the recipient of the State Council¡¯s special subsidy for experts. He graduated from the Medical Department of Nanjing Medical College in 1962, studied in Japan in 1984 and Australia in 1990, and successively held the posts of vice-president of the second affiliated hospital of Nanjing Medical College, pediatrics dean of Nanjing Medical University, vice-president of Nanjing Medical College, vice-president of Nanjing Medical University, and president of Nanjing Medical University. He assumed the post of master¡¯s degree candidates¡¯ supervisor in 1988 and that of doctoral supervisor in 1996, obtained the title of ¡°Outstanding Pace-setter of Scientific Research in Universities and Colleges of Jiangsu Province¡± in 1997, and won the golden prize of ¡°Redwood Award¡± for universities and colleges of Jiangsu Province and the ¡°Gardener Award¡± from State Education Commission and the All-China Women's Federation in 1999.

He obtained the title of ¡°Pace-setter in Scientific Research of Key Department of Medical Science in Jiangsu Province¡± in 2003, and has been holding the posts of subsidiary pediatrics advisor of Nanjing Children's Hospital affiliated with Nanjing Medical University and subsidiary children health science advisor of the Healthcare Hospital for Women & Children of Nanjing affiliated with Nanjing Medical University since 2005. He was a member of the standing committee of the 12th and 13th Pediatrics Society, a managing director of the fourth and fifth China nutrition council, a member of the standing committee of Association for Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province, the honorary president of the second council of Jiangsu Nutrition Society, a member of the standing committee of the seventh committee of Medical Association of Jiangsu, the chairman of the Child health care Society of Preventive Medical Society of Jiangsu, the vice president of Jiangsu Association for Improving Birth Outcome and Child Development, a member of the first and second Academic Degrees Committee of Jiangsu, a member of the ninth and tenth editorial committee of ¡°Chinese Journal of Pediatrics¡±, Currently he is a member of Pediatrics Society of China Medical Doctor Association, a member of the eighth standing committee of Jiangsu Medical Association and the chairman of Jiangsu Pediatrics Society, the honorary president of the third council of Jiangsu Nutrition Society, and the advisor of Child health care Society of Preventive Medical Society of Jiangsu. He is the vice chairman of the editorial board of ¡°Chinese Journal of Child Health Care¡±, a corresponding member of the editorial board of ¡°Chinese Journal of Pediatrics¡± and a member of the editorial boards of such journals as ¡°Progress in International Pediatrics¡±, ¡°Journal of Clinical Pediatrics¡±, ¡°Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics¡±, ¡°Jiangsu Medical Journal¡±, ¡°Journal of Nanjing Medical University¡±.
Main research fields: (1) research of the molecular mechanism of children's obesity and its complications; (2) research of the molecular mechanism and the preventing and treating of pediatric nephrology. He successively presided over and participated in national key subjects during the implementation of ¡°The Seventh Five-Year Plan¡±, subjects financed by National Natural Science Fund, and provincial/ministerial-level subjects. He won one second prize for scientific and technological progress from Ministry of Public Health, one national award for scientific and technological overachievement, one third prize of Chinese Medical Science, one second prize for scientific and technological progress from the provincial government of Jiangsu, three third prizes for scientific and technological progress from the provincial government of Jiangs, and a number of prizes for scientific and technological progress from provincial departments and bureaus.

He has supervised more than ten doctoral candidates, several dozen Master Degree candidates, and two post-doctoral candidates. He has published eleven SCI papers in international academic journals, more than 200 papers in Chinese core journals; he has been the editor or editor-in-chief of more than ten books, such as Child Health Care, Manual for Pediatric Routine Check, Pediatrics and Pediatrics Nursing, two course books for medical universities and colleges in the 21st century. He is the one of main translators of the Chinese edition of Nelson¡¯s Textbook of Pediatrics (the 15th edition), a world authoritative pediatric textbook. He discovered five total-length new fat-relevant genes (AY272059, AY292988, NM _ 181768, AY313923, AY317148) and has obtained three national patents.
