Experts from More Than 40 Medical and Pharmaceutical Institutions of Higher Learning Held Visits and Exchanges in NMU
On November 3rd, 2008, experts on experimental teaching reform and laboratory construction from more than 40 medical and pharmaceutical institutions of higher learning held visits and inspections on Jiangning Campus of NMU. Vice-President Wang Changqing, the functional departments concerned, and the principals of the colleges participated in the reception.
The panel of experts paid visit to the State-Level Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of the School of Basic Medical Sciences. They thought very highly of the experimental teaching reform and the construction results of the Center.
Moreover, the panel conducted adequate exchanges with NMU on the experience of experimental teaching reform and laboratory construction. In turn this made great contributions to improving the level of experimental teaching and laboratory construction.
Professor Khatckevich Henry from Russian St. Petersburg First State University of Medicine Came to Visit NMU
On November 5th, 2008, Professor Khatckevich Henry, Director of the Department of Children Stomatology of Russian St. Petersburg First State University of Medicine visited NMU. Professor Feng Zhenqing, Director of the Office for International Exchange and Cooperation, Professor Wang Lin, Dean of the Department of Stomatology, and others who were concerned received the visiting guest at the Suiyue Pavilion.
Professor Feng Zhenqing and Professor Wang Lin made a brief introduction of the development of NMU and its affiliated stomatological hospital respectively. Professor Henry introduced the basic information of St. Petersburg First State University of Medicine with interest, and expressed the wish to conduct all-around cooperation between the two universities. What’s more, on behalf of St. Petersburg First State University of Medicine, Professor Henry invited President Chen Qi to visit the university next year in order to set up the cooperation memorandum.
In the afternoon, Professor Henry visited the stomatological hospital affiliated with NMU. He delivered an academic lecture entitled “Maxillofacial Surgical Repair for Newborn Congenital Cleft Lip” and/or “Palate and Comprehensive Treatment of Synergy Orthodontia.”
Professor David C. Christiani of Harvard University Came to NMU to Conduct Academic Exchanges
Invited by Professor Shen Hongbing and Professor Chen Feng, Dean and Vice-Dean of the School of Public Health of NMU, Professor David C. Christiani, from the School of Public Health and the Medical College of Harvard University carried out an academic visit in NMU from November 7th to 8th. During the visit, Professor David C. Christiani delivered an academic report in the reporting hall of the school of Public Health entitled “Molecular Epidemiology: An Integrative Approach to Environmental Disease.”
On the afternoon of November 7th, 2008, Vice-President Wang Xinru received Professor David C. Christiani at the Suiyue Pavilion. Mr. Xinru conferred the letter of appointment of NMU visiting professor and placed the commemorative school badge upon Professor David C. Christiani. Major leaders and some teachers from the School of International Education and the School of Public Health attended the conferring ceremony.
Professor David C. Christiani particularly appreciated the academic ambience of NMU and expressed great admiration for the results obtained by NMU in the area of tumor molecular epidemiology research. According to Professor David C. Christiani, he was more than willing to be a visiting professor of NMU and hoped that the two universities could establish long-term cooperation on scientific research and talent cultivation.
President of American Physiological Association Visited Nanjing Medical University
On October 29th and 30th, 2008, Professor Irving H. Zucker, along with Associate Professor Wang Wei, visited Nanjing Medical University(NMU). Professor Zucker is the President of American Physiological Association, an internationally renowned cardiovascular research expert, and the Director of the Department of Physiology of the Medical College at the University of Nebraska.
On the afternoon of October 30th, President Chen Qi received the two professors in the conference room of NMU. On behalf of NMU, President Chen Qi extended a warm welcome to the visitors and made a brief introduction of the scientific and research situation of NMU. In addition, he offered sincere gratitude to the Department of Physiology of the Medical College of the University of Nebraska for its long-term assistance to NMU in the physiological field, hoping that the two sides can enhance collaboration and exchange scientific research and talent cultivation.
During the visit, Professor Zucker delivered an academic report titled “The Regulation of Central Angiotensin Receptor Expression in Chronic Heart Failure.” This was done in the Reporting Hall of Xianzhi Building, and afterwards the participants, teachers, and students held discussions with Professor Zucker on certain hot research issues.
Professor Zucker also looked around the laboratories in the Department of Physiology of the School of Basic Medical Sciences of NMU, had informal discussions with the teachers and students, and expressed a deep admiration for the research work and results of the Cardiovascular Physiological Laboratory of NMU.
Foundation of NMU Sino-Japan Probiotics Research Center
On the afternoon of November 4th, 2008, the signing and unveiling ceremony of NMU Sino-Japan Probiotics Research Center was held in the conference room in the school library. This event was chaired by Professor Shen Hongbing, Dean of the school of Public Health.
Professor Cai Yunqing, Director of the Institute of Scientific and Technological Research for Nutrition and Food of NMU, and Chairman of the Board of Nichinichi Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. signed the cooperation contract on behalf of the two sides. Vice-President Wang Xinru and the Chairman unveiled the plaque for the Center.
Leaders, department directors, teacher representatives from the School of Public Health, and members from the Japanese delegation attended the unveiling ceremony.
Nichinichi Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. is a corporation integrating the research, production, and marketing of drug and health food. They have carried out cooperation with the School of Public Health of NMU on the research, and function assessment of probiotic health food these past three years. The establishing of the Center will launch a positive influence on the bilateral collaboration, the friendship, and the health of the Chinese and Japanese people.
