Four faculty members have received their doctoral degree, ten have a master¡¯s degree and six are doctoral candidates.
Our department offers undergraduates, seven-year-program students, postgraduates many courses, including Systematic Anatomy, Topographic Anatomy, Sectional Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Clinical Anatomy, and Human Structural Science. The Department attaches great importance to teaching and teaching reform and the faculty have succeeded in developing ¡°the Anatomic Learning Resource from the Website¡± and ¡°the Intelligence System for On-line Anatomic Study and Examination¡±, and setting up several large round- the-clock experiment teaching labs and ¡°Educational Center for Medical Ethics¡±. This teaching and studying platform includes leading-edge software and hardware in the country. In the past few years, we have edited or co-edited more than ten textbooks and produced about 10 CAI coursewares. We have received two teaching research projects funded by Ministry of Health and Jiangsu Province Education Department. In 2004, ¡°Human Anatomy¡± was assessed as a provincial second-class excellent course, and in 2006, ¡°Human Structure¡± as a provincial first-class excellent course. The Department has won honors in many activities such as ¡°Three-aspect Education¡± and ¡°Joint Construction of Civilization by Teachers and Students¡±. It has received more than 20 teaching prizes at the school and provincial levels in the last few years.
The long-term interest of our research is the morphological and functional studies on the central nuclei associated with the regulation of visceral and cardiovascular activity and the clinical and applied anatomy of skull base surgery. Currently, under the leadership of Professor Dengshun Miao, we are exploring new research fields: the cell and molecule biology of bone and stem cells, and neural regeneration and diseases associated with neural injury and degeneration. In the past three years, our faculty have won 1 National Natural Science Foundation project, 6 research projects funded by provincial and ministerial foundations or other bodies. More than 40 research papers have been published by the faculty in international and national journals, 7 of which are SCI papers.
